چکیده
The Siluriformes, popularly known as catfishes, are probably the vertebrate group with highest diversity of venomous animals, even though only approximately a hundred catfishes reported to date. Venomous might present delivery system apparatus, formed by an unbranched ray at leading edge pectoral and dorsal fins (spine), which can be stiffened pungent, while venom glands surface such spines and/or axillary region. This work investigated presence, morphology distribution pectoral-fin apparatus in heptapterid Brachyrhamdia genus. Pectoral-fin spine external was compared across all valid species genus, histological sections regions B. heteropleura marthae were produced, dissections girdle region mentioned analyzed. confirmed presence species, cellular indicates these venomous. Also, we found piriform gland region, whose cell is like for other catfishes. However, cannot currently confirm or deny participation apparatus. constitutes first report Brachyrhamdia, description Heptapteridae glands.

A new Brachyrhamdia (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) from Rio Japurá basin, Brazil, with comments on its phylogenetic affinities, biogeography and mimicry in the genus.
Brachyrhamdia thayeria is herein described as a new heptapterid species from Rio Japuré, a left margin tributary of the Rio Solimões, Amazonas basin, Brazil. The new species is diagnosed from all its congeners by having a putative autapomorphy: dark oblique stripe across the caudal peduncle, originating below the anterior half of adipose fin and ending at base of rays of ventral caudal-fin lobe...
متن کاملOn the osteology and myology of catfish pectoral girdle, with a reflection on catfish (Teleostei: Siluriformes) plesiomorphies.
The configuration of the pectoral girdle bones and muscles of numerous catfishes was studied in detail and compared with that of other siluriforms, as well as of other teleosts, described in the literature. The pectoral girdle of catfishes is composed of only three bones, which probably correspond to the posttemporo-supracleithrum (posttemporal + supracleithrum), scapulo-coracoid (scapula + cor...
متن کاملTriploidy in the hematology of jundia juveniles (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae).
This study compared the hematological characteristics of diploid and triploid of jundia, Rhamdia quelen juveniles, an important freshwater fish cultured in south Brazil. Hematological morphometry of erythrocytes were determined in blood smears under a light microscope. The blood was used to measure the number of red blood cells (RBC) with a hemocytometer Neubauer chamber, and the numbers of whi...
متن کاملOccurrence of natural triploidy in Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae).
Five specimens of Rhamdia quelen collected from the Lindóia Stream, PR, Brazil, were cytogenetically analyzed. The diploid chromosome number found was 58, including 30 metacentric, 16 submetacentric, 10 subtelocentric, and 2 acrocentric chromosomes. Supernumerary or B chromosomes, frequently observed in this fish group, were not detected. One of the individuals was triploid, with 3n = 87. A sil...
متن کاملKaryotypic diversity and evolutionary trends in the Neotropical catfish genus Hypostomus Lacépède, 1803 (Teleostei, Siluriformes, Loricariidae)
The family Loricariidae with 813 nominal species is one of the largest fish families of the world. Hypostominae, its more complex subfamily, was recently divided into five tribes. The tribe Hypostomini is composed of a single genus, Hypostomus Lacépède, 1803, which exhibits the largest karyotypic diversity in the family Loricariidae. With the main objective of contributing to a better understan...
